FAQ
1. What is ChurchBass? The CHURCHBASS list is intended as a forum for bass players who practice their craft in a Christian church setting. Topics range from equipment usage and information to worship team and church issues. More information can be found in the Monthly Administrative Posting.
Postings to the list are restricted to subscribers.
2. How do I subscribe? You may subscribe to the list by sending an email to churchbass-subscribe@associate.com or, if you prefer to receive digests, churchbass-digest-subscribe@associate.com. The list can be read on-line by subscribing via Web-only mode. The address for this subscription mode is churchbass-allow-subscribe@associate.com. We ask that subscribers post a brief introduction to the list before other posting messages. Posting is done by sending you post via email to churchbass@associate.com.
3. How do I receive the messages as individual mailings? as a digest? To change how you receive the list, you will need to unsubscribe and resubscribe using the appropriate new subscription address. See FAQ #2 and FAQ #4 for more information.
4. How do I unsubscribe? Depending on how you are subscribed, you need to send mail to a different address in order to sign off the list permanently. Regular subscribers should send mail to churchbass-unsubscribe@associate.com. Digest subscribers should send mail to churchbass-digest-unsubscribe@associate.com. Web-only subscribers should send mail to churchbass-allow-unsubscribe@associate.com.
5. How can I send messages from more than one account, but only receive them once? Subscribe, either in regular or digest mode, from the one account where you want to get your email. Subscribe the other accounts via Web-only mode, I presume. I haven't checked this to make sure that it works. Let me know if this doesn't work so I can update this entry.
6. How do I post messages to the list? Messages are posted by sending them via e-mail to the list address, churchbass@associate.com.
7. What are the recommended tags? When sending messages, we request that you apply the following recommended message tags at the beginning of the subject line to facilitate discussion and help people determine what material may not be of interest to them. For example: Subject: {INTRO} Introducing Joe Smith. You may use other tags, however, they should be in the proper format, i.e., enclosed within braces. Uppercase is preferred, but not required. If you post a message without a tag or with tag in the wrong format you will receive a polite reminder that your message should have had a proper tag.
- {GEAR} equipment issues
- {METHOD} techniques, lessons, theory
- {MUSIC} arrangements, bass lines, composers, players
- {SOUND} relating to sound reinforcement

- {INTRO} new member introductions
- {PRAYER} prayer requests or answers.
Don't send "I'm praying for you"-type messages to the list. Send those directly to the poster.
- {NBC} no bass content -- please try to limit these
- {PERSONAL} items about family, etc.
- {GATHERING} group events, fellowship opportunities
- {ADMIN} list operations (generally from the list admin)
8. Where is the TAB archive? We would love to have TAB (tablature notation) archived here, but no one has submitted any. When we get some, we will make a link to it from the web page. You might want to check out the links on the ChurchBass Home Page for other sites that have TAB.
9. What is GAS? What does NBC mean? GAS: Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Exodus 20:17 :-) -- but seriously check your heart before you check your bank account.
NBC: No Bass Content
10. Is Marc Miller really Marcus Miller? No. See his web page.
11. Has anyone posted the joke about the drumming? Yes, so please refrain. If you haven't heard it I include one version below:
A missionary was posted to a remote island. The sound of drums was constantly reverbrating from the nether parts of the island. When the missionary asked the natives about the drums, they always said "Drums good!!!" This went on for weeks. One day the drumming stopped abruptly. The natives came running out of the jungle, plunging into the ocean as if trying to escape some horror. The missionary managed to grab one of them and asked what was coming. With fear in his eyes, he screamed..."BASS SOLO!"
12. How do I get my picture on the subscriber's page? We are no longer putting pictures up on the web site. Keeping up with them was a fulltime job, and they take up a fair amount of space.
13. Where do I find the Monthly Administrative Posting? Here is a link to the Monthly Administrative Posting.
